Favorite Wedding Locations, Los Angeles and Orange County

0375-wedding-isle-bow-copy1Before you can plan the wedding, you have to find the perfect location.  For those still looking for that perfect venue here are a few of my favorites.  I’ve tried to categorize them and give a brief description.  From a photographic point of view they are all stunning and fun to work with.  I hope this list will jump start your imagination and helps with your planning.  I’ll keep adding locations as I find them.  Enjoy!

If your looking for a country club / golf club location I have four favorites right in my backyard.

Friendly Hills Country Club is a tucked away in the beautiful hills above Whittier.  It has a fantastic outdoor area overlooking the eighteenth hole.  If that isn’t enough your view includes an old stone bridge, a large garden pond full of geese and a waterfall finishing hole.

Los Coyotes CC    has a fantastic and newly remodeled facility in Buena Park just off Beach Blvd.  Again the outside balcony for ceremonies overlooks the golf course, a large fountain and dreamy sunset views.

Altadena Town & Country Club  tucked away in the hills above Pasadena, the club house has recently been remodeled and offers a beautiful location in a historic Old California style.

Finally there is Coyote Hills Country Club .  This is an upscale public course with an outdoor garden nestled up against the scenic 18th hole waterfall.

Ethnic wedding locations can be a challenge and you need someone who understands the requirements and can handle the details to make everything come off smoothly.  For ethnic weddings my two favorite locations are Pacific Palms in the City of Industry and Renaissance in Glendale.

Pacific Palms Resort and Spa.       If you want to kick it up a notch this is the place.  Pacific Palms can cater to weddings of ANY size.  They even have chefs on staff that specialize in Asian and Indian cuisine.  For Indian weddings they have two outdoor areas that can be customized for any size function.

Renaissance:   The perfect location for Armenian and Middle eastern style weddings.   Large ballrooms can cater to any size function.  The food alone is worth the visit for a tasting!

Wineries:

What’ more romantic than a winery for a wedding location.  I’m sure what first comes to mind is Napa and Sonoma in northern California.  If you want to keep travel and stress to a minimum, Temecula Valley is just an hours drive from Los Angeles and Orange county.

Wilson Creek, Callaway Winery and Vineyard and Thornton Winery  are three of my favorites.  They both offer spectacular views, wine tours along with adventuresome activities for your guests.  If you want something a little more secluded for very intimate affairs, the Stonehouse at the Temecula Creek Inn  features a 150 year old Stone House, a meandering creek and bridge in a secluded valley next to their golf course.   Los Willows in Fallbrook is a private estate tucked away in a lush peaceful valley just south of Temecula.

Historic Mission Revival estates, Gardens and Old California style wedding locations

La Venta Inn   Located in the heart of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, this Spanish revival estate has been converted to the perfect Wedding Location.  With lush gardens, a secluded location and the perfect panoramic view overlooking the Santa Monica Bay.  It doesn’t get much better than this.

The Athenaeum at California Instutute of Technology    When you think of Caltech, one usually thinks of a premier college.  On the southwest corner of the campus you’ll find the Athenaeum.  Built in the 1920′s as a gathering place for the college, the Athenaeum features wonderful grounds, complete with fountains, gardens, arches and pillars ,tall old world wood beam ceilings, and plenty of old California architecture.  A wonderful location in the heart of Pasadena.

Rancho Las Lomas        Rancho Las Lomas is one of the most elegant wedding venue and private estates in Southern California. Weddings here are especially beautiful and picturesque. This restored early California rancho offers a private and intimate atmosphere, set amidst exquisitely manicured botanical and zoological gardens.

The Bowers Museum  A cool garden courtyard in the Spanish style, surrounded by a cultural museum.  Whats not to love.   Also a great onsite restaurant for all of your catering needs.

Descanso Gardens       Imagine an internationally acclaimed botanical garden as the backdrop for your wedding day. An extraordinary setting for any special occasion.  Imagine a location with the sun softly filtered by mighty California oaks and the richness of a camellia forest, or the breathtaking beauty of the International rosarium in full bloom, or an extraordinary Japanese garden as a backdrop.  For garden weddings in Los Angeles, nothing compares.

Castle Green   Looking for something exotic and funky.  The Castle Green in Pasadena features a Moorish Colonial and Spanish style building with Moorish and Victorian style gardens and interiors

Oviatt Penthouse and Cicada Restaurant       Jazz Age Opulence in the heart of Los Angeles.  The historic OviattPenthouse is one of Los Angeles’ most celebrated architectural gems.  If your looking for a 20′s themed location or just something to capture the heyday of Hollywood, these two Art Deco design masterpiece locations are worth a long look

Looking for a Hacienda style garden courtyard wedding location.  The Los Angeles River Center and Gardens  and The Hacienda  will fit your needs.

Resort Style Wedding locations in Southern California

My all time favorite for sheer elegance and style is the Langham Huntington Hotel and Spa in Pasadena.   From intimate to extravagant, traditional to the unexpected, if your looking for classic elegance, you’ll find it here.

The Bacara Resort and Spa in Santa Barbara.  An elegant Mediterranean style resort and spa on the coast of Santa Barbara.  What more can we say.

The Hyatt, Huntington Beach    Imagine a fabulous beach resort in the heart of Huntington Beach.  Lush gardens, fabulous fountains, pacific sunsets, and best of all, miles of sandy beach just a walk across the bridge.

Millenium Biltmore in Los Angeles       Millennium Biltmore Hotel offers historic grandeur of old Hollywood, and modern luxury in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.

And finally a few wedding locations that are just fun to work with and offer fantastic photographic opportunities:

Disney Concert Hall   This is, without a doubt the most unique wedding location in Los Angeles.  A dazzling, modern, and visual delight, with fabulous panoramic views of the city (especially at night).  If your looking for modern elegance, the Disney Concert hall should be top of your list.

Our Lady of the Angles Cathedral   A grand and modern cathedral located near downtown museums, the Disney Concert Hall and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.  They also have their own large banquet hall adjacent to the church making this a perfect all in one venue for weddings large and small.

The Richard Nixon Library  Fantastic gardens with an amazing reflecting pool are the defining features of the library.  Receptions are held inside in the large main lobby making this another all in one location for your wedding.

Wayfarers Chapel     This small chapel designed by  Lloyd Wright, Frank Lloyd Wright’s son, overlooks the pacific ocean on the cliffs of Palos Verdes.  The perfect location for a small, intimate wedding.
